True to tradition, the Cookshire Fair is once again making way for the next generation. Matthew Burns of the 4-H Club invites the public to come see the youth grooming their animals to show them at their best. Burns is 21 years old, and has been involved in organizing the fair since 2005. If the math is right, he was only 10 years old when he made his debut, like many other children in the agricultural domain. Members of both the 4-H Club and the Association des jeunes ruraux will be at the fair, proudly parading and exhibiting their animals. Youth coming mostly from Sawyerville, Richmond and Hatley will present their animals, including sheep, hens, rabbits, goats, horses and more. Members of the Association des jeunes ruraux, many of them from Barnston and Waterville, will be showing mostly milk cows.
The activities begin on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. with a demonstration and quiz competition. On Friday at 10 a.m. are confirmation classes, and at 1 p.m., showmanship classes for poultry, sheep and goats. Many more activities are planned; consult the schedule for details.
