As do a number of other municipalities in the Haut-Saint-François, the Newport municipality is offering a Christmas Market, its first ever, on November 28 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Municipal Hall, 1452 Route 212. A dozen exhibitors from the area will be presenting their creations and products, jewelry, quilts, watercolours and paintings, lavender and sea buckthorn products, honey, cheese, maple syrup, gluten-free health and beauty products, Santa's reindeer decorations and homemade preserves. The idea of the Christmas Market is to raise the profile of the municipality and to present its local talents as well as its territory. The organizers also hope to encourage local buying and the ecological principle of a local market.
